Hi my name is Divine, a 27-year old worldtrotter and welcome to this food and travel blog!
My Travel Buddy
While I enjoy traveling alone or with I group, my favorite travel buddy is my fellow owl – a night owl, my partner Gelo Martinez. He sleeps thru the day (sometimes) and works thru the night (always). He has other priorities so he may not be able to write in this blog even if I made him an author. But let’s see if we can make him write ? as I believe he has a lot to contribute with his wild imaginations.
Why Backpacking Owl
I’m an owl. My eyes are large and they are popping. ? As a child I have been called names and one of them was an owl. Yesterday I would have cried but today I take pride. Here’s why.
First, owls are queer. Gelo and I do weird things, like owls.
And second, owls are silent flyers. We do not hear them at night when they fly. We believe we are like that. We like to keep quiet, feel and enjoy every place we visit.
I came from a small town in the Mountain Province called Natonin. I can say that as a child I explored our backyard and our small barangay. I delighted in the butterflies and the bees and I played with the mud after the rain. Exploring has been embedded in my DNA.
Fast forward to the year 2011 and I made my first international travel – to Europe! I had the privilege to travel with some 20 women to attend the World Youth Day. I discovered new places and instantly felt intoxicated!
I marveled at the glory of France, the grandeur of Spain and the greatness of Rome. This travel is the reason why the wanderlust in me was reignited.
Posing below the eiffel tower. Don’t be fooled by the chin. It’s just the angle. ?
One of the most wonderful things I saw in Europe – The Cathedral at Lourdes France.
Today, I made small local travels in Philippines and I intend to do more travels here in the Philippines and around the world.
It’s been a while since I made my last international travel and I’m now craving for more. In the past months or years I have been caught in the daily grind and travel has become my least priority. Realizing this, I have decided to challenge myself to go to new places and be awed with the wonders of this world once again.
My first project with this blog is the 52-week challenge. For 52 weeks, I will go to a restaurant or a place I have never visited before.
My guiding principle
When I was 18 years old, my dad came home with a book. It was the first time that he gifted me with a book. It was special because it was my debut. We did not throw a party but I was contented.
I turned the pages and one quote struck me and until this day I am guided by it.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed with the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
Why do I have this blog?
1 week after my 27th birthday I got myself into deep thought. I realized that I’m not in my early 20’s anymore. Three years from now and I’ll be turning 30. I looked back into my life and my guiding principle and found myself stuck. I want to experience new things again. So the 52-Week Challenge is born. This blog will serve as my accountability journal and will make sure that I live by my guiding principle. It will ensure that I keep my wanderlust alive and will serve as a reminder that I should always be exploring.
Initially, this blog was born because I just want to experience new things. But when I looked back at my pictures from 2 years ago or so, my gallery is full of pictures of food. So Food Flashback Friday was born.
Then random thoughts just came to me so I also post random articles usually every Wednesday.
